Debate Refelction
For our debate we were debating if women our represented fairly in the media industry. My group had to argue that women are represented fairly. When we first started to look into what we ad to argue it was very hard to find useful facts. As a group we had to do a lot of work to find examples of fair representation of women. I looked at Marvel and some of there famous characters from their films and T.V shows. When I looked into this I learn't that women are getting are becoming more fairly represented.

Directional Style
When i think of my self as a director i think of myself as someone who doesn't stick to the script word of word I'm someone who lets the actors have say if they think something is working or if it needs to be cut. When I'm making a film I want to see the characters grown.
When it comes to directing I take a lot of inspiration from Quentin Tarantino and how he lets his scenes play out. I think this is a really good way of directing because you allow the actors to run with the scene and if they go off script you carry on filming and see what it looks like.
Another director I take inspiration from is Kathryn Bigelow she directed big block busters like The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty. She is able to make the interesting serious films. When I watch her films I like how she has taken on these very masculine movies and creates amazing films.
I also really like Steven Spielberg and how me produces his film. I find his films are always very polished and clear. You get a clear understanding of what sort of director and producer he his.
From looking at these three people I have a good idea of how I will produce and direct my film. I want the characters to really feel who they are playing but I want them to run with what ever happens in the scene. I also want people to think of it as a serious film with interesting and unique characters.

Dr. Foster-
Mid 30’s, very clever, bit of introvert, always working, messy dresser, finds it hard to make a clear decision. Very passionate about renewable energy, has spent many years working on cold fusion and trying to prove it
Mary King-
Late 20’s, dresses well, came from a wealthy family, very passionate about renewable energy, started working straight after uni. Wants to find a new renewable energy source and help change global warming. Is new to working on cold fusion

Scenario
The UK has just signed a deal with China to build a new Nuclear Power Plant in Bridgehaven at a huge cost to the taxpayer. Meanwhile, a publicly crowdfunded science laboratory has had a major breakthrough in it’s cold fusion tests - could this be the answer to the world's problems. and ensure that the government's nuclear plans are not scuppered.

First I wanted to look at what cold fusion was and how it works so that I would have a better understanding when creating my film. Cold fusion is a way that you can create nuclear energy at room tempter. By doing this you would be saving then environment because you wouldn't be burning fossil fuels. It is also a lot cheaper then fossil fuels one gallon of heavy water costs $1000. Heavy water is a key part to cold fusion. The oceans already have heavy water which cold last thousands of years. Also one gallon of heavy water is the equivalent to 300,000 gallons of fossil fuels. It would also have positive affect on the food market. It would reduce food production so food would be cheaper.
However looking at the positives of cold fusion there are some negatives. People would lose there jobs as the coal mines wouldn't be needed as much also nuclear power plants wont be in high demand so there wouldn't need to be as many of them.
Looking at the positives and negatives of cold fusion it really mad me think of what sort of short film I'm going to make, and what sort of charters I'm going to have.

ASA (Advertising Standard Authority)
The 'ASA' (Advertising Standard Authority) cover a large range of
advertisements from Magazines and newspapers to radio and TV commercials and banners and display ads. The 'ASA' have been around since 1961 it also works along side with 'CAP' (Committee of Advertising Practice). 'CAP' writes and maintains the Advertising Codes. One example of an advert getting cancelled would be the 'Morrisons' they had an add that showed a child taking out the salad of a burger. This was banned because it showed unhealthy eating.
The 'ASA' have very strict codes about what you put in your adverts if they are aimed at children.
The adds must not exploit their credulity, loyalty, vulnerability or lack of experience. They must also make sure they don't encourage children to copy any practice that might be unsafe. Advert must not portray or represent children in a sexual way.
When it comes to food and drink adverts they must not give a misleading impression of the nutritional benefit of products. Adverts must not use 'high pressure' or 'had sell' techniques to sell there products. Also a companies advert must not condone or encourage poor nutritional habits or an unhealthily life style in children.
An example of were the 'ASA' has had to step in would be with the sweet brand 'Swizzels Matlow ltd' They had an online game were they encouraged poor nutritional habits and unhealthy lifestyles in children. The 'ASA' decided that the game did preached there codes so these parts of the game had to be changed or taken down.

This advert was based around the time when LeBron moved teams back the Cleveland. Which is why they called it RE-ESTABLISHED. The base of the advert was LeBron working out using the ‘Beats’ products. They also used created clips of what his up bring was as it was a hard one form moving flat to flat not having food. However it showed how he overcame all of these problems, they do this by going to his old High School where you see the awards he won.
For this advert they focused it around people from his home town as it was the base of the advert. They knew when creating this advert there would be a lot of people who wouldn’t like it, this is because of people not like LeBron James as he moved back to his old basketball team. ‘Beats’ have also done another advert like this one with Serena Williams where they did they same thing. For me I think ‘beats” did these types of adverts to inspire people to show them that you can overcome any problem whether it be your up bring or what the press are saying.

Board Game Design Ideas

I took colour samples from the others games. I did this because I liked how bright and bold they were. For my game I have changed the colours so that im not copping other games.

GIF
Gif (Graphics Interchange Format) are being used a lot in all different types of media. Clothing companies are using them on their websites to show off their products. Social media is another example of how Gif are becoming more popular, Tumblr is one of the most popular places to show your Gif's.
The only issue I had with my Gif is the speed I wasn't able to get the speed I wanted. I had to use 0.1 second gap between images because a 0.2 second gap was to long and the Gif felt slow. Also I would have liked to made the smiley face in parts like I did with the letters.
Crib Sheet
For this task we were looking at crib sheets and how to crete one. By doing a crib sheet it allows you to get an idea of what locations.
Ben, Kerri, Issey and Ella
Green Park
Time of day: Late afternoon
Inside/Outside: Outside
Light Source: Sun or bring lights
Problems/Limitations: Soundings- there were a lot of cars and building work. This wouldn't work for our film because its set in the late 1920's
Roads- This is a problem because you have cars driving past and people who wont be in costume walking past.
Land owners permission: Public Land
SWOT:
Strengths- the park works well because of the trees. This location would work well at this time of the year because you have all of the leaves on the floor.
Weakness- You have a busy road going around the park so recording sounds might be a problem
Opportunities- This place could be a good place to film if you wanted to get some Autumn shots
Threats- Because it was a park you had children playing. Which means recording would become difficult.
Norfolk Crescent
Time of day: Any
Inside/Outside: Outside
Light Source: Sun or bring lights
Problems/Limitations: Cars- The cars are outside the houses so you cant record them.
Building Work- This was a problem because if we were doing recording the sound wouldn't of been usable.
Land owners permission: Public Land
SWOT:
Strengths- You have a big open grass areas if you wanted to get big wide angle open shots
Weakness- The cars get in the way of the building
Opportunities- The big trees in the middle would look very nice if you were you wanted to have wide angle shots
Threats- As it is a road you would have to be careful of the cars and make sure everyone is safe

Royal Crescent
Time of day: Any
Inside/Outside: Outside
Light Source: Sun or bring lights
Problems/Limitations: Cars- The cars were in front of the houses. If you were filming here you would have to crop the shot so the cars cant be seen. Public- People are walking around the whole of the crescent so you would have to think about this when recording.
Land owners permission: Public Land
SWOT:
Strengths- It's a really big open piece of land so it would work well if you wanted to get wide angle shots
Weakness- The cars at the top by the houses
Opportunities- This place would work well of you wanted to have a big chase scene. Or if you wanted to have a big pan shot
Threats- As it is public land you do have to be carful with who is walking though and make sure they know they are being recorded

Impact of Sound
Sound had a big impact in the film industry. By adding sound it made the film feel more real you didn't have the text that would come up on your screen explaining what was happening, it also allowed you to hear the actors. By adding sound you are able to understand and get more into the film. The first time sound was used in a film was in 1923 in Paris.
When sound was first added one of there main problems was synchronisation as the picture and sound were recored and played back though different devices. In modern day cinema you don't have this problem. You are able to have all of the cameras and microphones in perfect synchronisation.
In modern cinema they use of foley sounds has become a high paying job as it is a very important part of making a film. When creating foley sounds you have to be very creative and you have to think about each shot and what sort of sounds are going to be in there. You cant just think about one object you have to think about the whole shot.

Constructing a Scene
For this scene from Reservoir Dog. You have a mix of different camera angles. For my first screen shot. You have a close-up. This angle works well here because you can see the pain and emotion on the actors face.
For the second screen shot I chose the over the shoulder angle. With this part of the scene this camera angle works really well because it gives you the view from the actors perspective.
Towards the end of the scene there more wide angles camera angles. This is shown in my third
screen shot. This camera angle has also been shot from the ground by doing this gives the scene a different feeling. You don't normally see a wide angle shot from the floor.
For my final screen shot of the scene is right at the end. Again they have used a wide camera angle. For this part it works really well because you are able to see all of the characters and what has happened to them.

Magazine Layout
For this front cover if GQ the are focusing this issue around Channing Tatum. With GQ they always use a big image of what ever there main story is. By doing this when you first see the front cover you have an idea of who they are focusing on. GQ for this front cover GQ decided not to use a lot of different colours, they just stuck to three. they used yellow and grey for there logo and some of the text they also used black for the other bits of text. i think they choose to use three colours because it looks more smarts and perferdshional, by doing this it works really well with the photo as Channing Tatum is wearing a suit. By using such a big picture it means they don't have to fill the rest of the cover lots of text or other photos. GQ use big and bold text for there front cover. This draws the buyers attention also it makes it easy to see what the main articles are in this issue.
When it it comes to the inside of the magazine its still bold and interesting even if there is a lot of text. For this two page spread about Jay-Z. For the first page they filled the page with a photo of him. This will draw your attention. Again they have used the same colours across the two pages this makes the look smart and it works with the stile of GQ. When it comes to the main article they still tray make it interesting. They placed a big J in the middle of the page. They also use over sized letters at the begging of each paragraph.

Leading is the way you edit the gape between two lines of text. Here are three examples of Leading.
The first piece of text is what the standard font is.
For the second piece of text I used Leading to make the gap closer.
For the third piece of text I used Leading to make the gap bigger.

Type Familys
This is the type family of 'Minion Pro' this type family has 10 different styles. This type family has a lot of Italic types in it. Also all of the Serif's.
Serif and Sans-Serif
Serif and Sans-Serif are the extra strokes you get at the end of character in some fonts. Serif's does have the extra stroke to the character. A Sans-Serif(Sans) is what you would say if there was no extra stroke at the end of each character.
In the image below I have created a diagram showing this. The first F is a example of Sans-Serif, the second F is a example of Serif. For the third F I have highlighted the parts of the character that makes it Serif.

Primary Research
Primary research is a way that you can ask specific questions. You can do this by doing questionnaires, surveys you can also use focus groups to find out the information you need. A focus group is were you get a group of people and ask them questions. By doing a focus group you are able to get a good range of answers from all different ages and demographies.
For my primary research I looked into YouTube. I wanted to see what type of videos people watch and how much they visit YouTube. I put my questionnaire on Facebook for people to answer here are two of my results.
For the first chart I asked the question what sort of YouTube videos do you watch. From looking at the pie chart you can see the most popular type of videos are Tutorials. So if you wanted to start a YouTube channel this graph would help.
The second pie chart I ask how many days in a week would you go on YouTube. From looking at the chart you can see over 50% of people visit YouTube everyday.
Primary research is a very affective way to gather research from a larger range of people. Also you are able to ask the questions you want to.

Secondary Research
Secondary research is a way of collecting data from the internet, newspapers etc. by doing secondary research first you will be able to get a better idea of what you should do for you primary research.
'YouTube has become the biggest website for sharing videos. YouTube is localised in 39 countries and across 54 languages.'
PewDiePie is the biggest YouTube channel that isn’t a network. He has close to 40 Million subscribers. However from looking at the chart below you can see that music channels are also very popular. This is something you would want to look at when creating a Youtube channel. When looking at secondary research you need to look at were you are getting your information from and making sure your sources are creditable, as you don't want to get the wrong information.
Secondary research is very useful because its a way of finding information from millions of different people.

Movie Poster
In Illustrator we used the pen tool. This tool is used to draw, the good thing about this tool is it allows to you make perfect curves. We allows looked at the shape tool. We tried making pictures out of the shape tool.
When it come to my hierarchy I made the text the biggest part of the poster I did this because I wanted your eyes to be drawn straight to it. I then wanted the monster to be noticeable but the not the first thing use see that is why I put it in the conner.
I chose to use 'Rockwell' font because it was bold and easy to read, also it was the front that I had in my original design. the reason I have chosen to use a grey background is because I find it helps make the other colours more noticeable and bright.

Branding Guidelines
Branding is a important part of any company, film etc. When branding something you have to think about the public because they are the one how are going to be looking at it and deciding if they like it. When you have created a brand you have to have branding guidelines so your brand message is communicated consistently.
For my film poster the branding guidelines are: the font must be 'Rockwell' this is because its bold text and it is easy to read, also you should have the letters just touching. Finally with the font you should use 'create outlines' and change how some of the text looks.

When it comes to the colours at big aspect of it has to be red.
The red that has to be used is.

Textual Analysis
In this
lesson we looked at textual analysis, and how to write one. We each had to pick
a film or T.V trailer of our choosing. I choses to look at Reservoir Dogs, I
choses to look at this trailer because I like the film and the trailer has lots
of different aspects to it. When writing about it we had to look at our
glossary the we had created. By having the glossary, it helped because it gave
you things you had to talk about. When I was writing my review I talked about
the music used and why it worked, I also talked how the use of text impacts the
trailer.
