Unit 09 Production Target 02

For this project I wanted to look at green screens and how to create pieces of work using them. The reason I did this was because I am co-creating a film in the new year. The most difficult scene in the film will be the green scene. This is why I focussed on it in this research project. I started of by looking at films that have used them and how they used the green screens. On of the most important things I noticed was the lighting, the better lighting you had the easier it will be in post-production. The fist test I did was in the studio trying out different lights and placing the lights in different places to get different looks. For the video you can see how different lighting will change how the over piece looks.

After doing this first test I wanted to focus more on what the scene from the film would look like. Since I had a good idea of what lighting was needed to get a good green screen for post-production. In this film I'm working on the character is falling from a height, So I wanted to see how I could show the actor lying on a green screen and shower the background underneath them. The set up was very different from the first test as I had to light a larger area of the green screen. I did have a big problem when doing this, the green screen had lots of creases which is a problem when lighting.

This is a rough idea of what the scene would look like. I created the background in Premier Pro using stock footage of three different clips. I was happy with how this turned out.

From doing this project it gave me a better understanding of how much work goes into using and creating footage with green screens.

Unit 09 Production Target 1

This was a task that was given to use to experiment with high frame rate. The theme of my video was an advert for nike. We wanted to focus on running because this is one of the best ways to use high frame rate footage. I was really happy with how this work turned out.
To create the slow motion we set our cameras to record on 60fps in 720p then when we edited the clips we could change the the speed of the clips to 50% so it would be in slow motion.

We had to create a live show using the tri-caster. This was was the second time using this type of recording so I had a good understanding

Quick Cuts- Shaun of the Dead

In the scene you can see a large number of cuts. In this scene they use a lot of zoom cuts, you can see the camera starts to zoom in on and object e.g Shaun brushing his teeth or him putting on his work badge. Once the camera starts to zoom it will cut to the next scene. Also with this clips you see how each part is very quick and fast moving, this works well because it helps keep the pace. In this scene they use a OTH when the toilet is being used, they have also used a lot close up shots by doing this it makes the zooms more powerful.

Toy Poster

For the final task of this unit we had to make a poster for a toy. We had to use blocks to design the toy as they would be made out of little blocks that you connect to build the house. I decided I would draw over the top of the design so you could get a better understanding of what you can create. I am happy with how it turned out.
As this is my first time doing something like this I know the house is a bit wonky but I didn't have time to change. So that is something I would change if I was to do it again.

Muffin Poster Overview

For the final task of this unit we had to create a piece of work about a certain theme. I decided I would do a piece on healthy eating. I thought I would make a poster about how to make heathy muffins. I found a recipe online and copied it, to make the poster better i added photos of what they look like. I am really happy with how it turned out.

Filming and Editing the clips for the Monologue

For this film I want the audience to see the character sat at his desk writing his letter. So I decided when you hear the monologue you will see shots of him at his desk writing. I didn't just want it to be shots of the camera on the tripod so I used the dolly to get tracking shots. I did this because I knew it would look better and I also I wanted to experiment with the dolly and see what sort of shots I can get.
For the editing process of the clips I started by adding adding 'Warp Stabilizer' I did this because I wanted the shots to be smooth and have good motion, the floor in the stdio was smooth however there are a few bumps so sometimes the stabilizer didn't work. So i had to take it of for a clips which is fine because I still feel like they look good. The other big thing I change with these clips was the colour. The bulb that was in the light gave of a warmer tone which I didn't wanted. I used 'Three-way Colour Corrector' for this. I feel like I was able to get the colours that I wanted. I know that changing the colours really helped with the mood of the film. I was able to make it look more dark but also have a more natural look.

Primary and Secondary Research

For this project the research was very important it helped me get better understanding of the topic and how to make a film that doesn't sound fake.
When I did my secondary research it really helped me look at different types of monologues and how to write and good one. As this was a very important part of my film and the monologue had to be perfect. With the secondary research it also helped to get a good understanding of really life stories from people who suffer from mental health problems like suicide and depression. The two books were the key to this, when reading them it really helped me get the monologue to its best. I also decided to look at the stats of suicide in UK, I found this difficult to look at because I found out the rates were higher than I thought. Espacillay as the ages we're from 15 and older, this deffanity proved my point that suicide is a big problem and it needs to be talked about.

When it came to me doing my primary research it was a little more difficult because I was making a film about suicide I had to be more carful with what I do. I had to make sure I was considerate of people and there feelings, this is why I didn't do a survey. I felt like it could come across as inconsiderate and rude. I knew I could of done one but I wouldn't of been able to ask the questions I wanted to also I knew the answers weren't gaining to be yes or no answer. So instead decided I would do a focus group. This was a very important for me to do because I was able to ask the questions that would have longer answers also when I was doing this focus group you go see the emotion and hear the emotion, I know I wouldn't of got that with a survey. Plus from doing the focus I found out what sort of film people would like to watch.

Overall my research has really helped me with getting a better understanding of what sort of film I will make. I have a good understanding of what sort of monologue I should write and what scenes I shot film.
