Focus group Write Up

For my focus group I wanted to get a good understanding of what people liked and thought what would make a good nonlinear film. From doing this I had the same answers as my survey. This is a good thing because it backs up what I thought when I first started this project. In the focus group people said the film needs to have an interesting story it keep them engaged.

For doing this focus group even though it is short I was able to learn how media students felt about the idea of a nonlinear dramatic short film. From this focus group it backed up the base of the film, it it showed me things that I need to make sure I include. I.E making sure the story is interesting and captivating. This focus group is going to help me when it comes to writing the script.

Test Footage 1

Here you can see two different types of test footage that has been created for this project. The first video is of how some of the transitions will look. The second video is just audio, it is how the car crash might sound with the final edit.

Development

After my pitch my lecturer said that I need to make sure what my role are for this project. As I am working with someone it’s important to make sure you don’t cross over with the roles as something will get forgotten about. I was also told I need to make sure that I have the research to support what was said in the pitch.

Test 1

Here you can see I did a test on transition. For the scene that this would be used for is when you have Adam lead in the hospital bed, then it will cut to Emily in bed. the reason I'm doing this transition is because We only have access to one bed so I can't have one continuous shot going from one room to the other. I was really happy with how this test turned out. When we do the real shot I will put markers on the floor to make sure the camera stays in the same place. This is the most important thing for this shot as if the camera is in the wrong place the cut will look wrong and jumpy.

Interview with Tobie Lang

Me and Em decided we would interview Tobie Lang on how he became a technician.

Unit 09 Production Target 02

For this project I wanted to look at green screens and how to create pieces of work using them. The reason I did this was because I am co-creating a film in the new year. The most difficult scene in the film will be the green scene. This is why I focussed on it in this research project. I started of by looking at films that have used them and how they used the green screens. On of the most important things I noticed was the lighting, the better lighting you had the easier it will be in post-production. The fist test I did was in the studio trying out different lights and placing the lights in different places to get different looks. For the video you can see how different lighting will change how the over piece looks.

After doing this first test I wanted to focus more on what the scene from the film would look like. Since I had a good idea of what lighting was needed to get a good green screen for post-production. In this film I'm working on the character is falling from a height, So I wanted to see how I could show the actor lying on a green screen and shower the background underneath them. The set up was very different from the first test as I had to light a larger area of the green screen. I did have a big problem when doing this, the green screen had lots of creases which is a problem when lighting.

This is a rough idea of what the scene would look like. I created the background in Premier Pro using stock footage of three different clips. I was happy with how this turned out.

From doing this project it gave me a better understanding of how much work goes into using and creating footage with green screens.

Unit 09 Production Target 1

This was a task that was given to use to experiment with high frame rate. The theme of my video was an advert for nike. We wanted to focus on running because this is one of the best ways to use high frame rate footage. I was really happy with how this work turned out.
To create the slow motion we set our cameras to record on 60fps in 720p then when we edited the clips we could change the the speed of the clips to 50% so it would be in slow motion.

We had to create a live show using the tri-caster. This was was the second time using this type of recording so I had a good understanding
